Reflections on 2023 and looking ahead to 2024
Minister for Housing and Communities, Deputy David Warr As I write this blog, 2024 is still new, a large blank canvas on which humanity is yet to make its mark. Reflections on World Homeless Day: moving beyond the symptoms of homelessness towards solving its underlying causes
On 10 October, we join communities around the world in observing World Homeless Day. The day is an opportunity for us to reflect on homelessness in Jersey. Who does it affect? What are its causes? World Homeless Day & The Shelter Trust
World Homeless Day is observed internationally on the 10th of October. A day used to draw attention to the needs of those who experience homelessness and to provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness, something which many islanders may think isn’t an issue here in Jersey. Control of Jersey’s borders
For centuries many Jersey people have left the Island to live elsewhere. Conversely, others from many countries have come to Jersey to work in different industries, or to seek refuge. Thousands of French Protestant Huguenots came here in the late 17th and early 18th centuries to escape persecution in France. Then Irish workers came, to … Read more Control of Jersey’s borders
How do we shape a long-term vision for Jersey
In my last blog post, I looked at why we need a long-term vision for Jersey – an addition to the four year plans set by each Council of Ministers and which would be the guiding document by which all other policies across government would be guided and informed. How though do we begin the process … Read more How do we shape a long-term vision for Jersey
