What does the Sunflower mean?
People choose to wear to the Sunflower to discreetly indicate that they have a hidden disability and may need help, assistance, or simply more time. You can show your support for the Sunflower scheme by wearing a green or white lanyard.
It’s worth remembering, not every disability is visible, some are just not obvious.
The silvery glow of the moon, reflecting on the serene waters of Jersey, beckons a wave of nostalgia. It instantly brings to my mind a verse from the celebrated Tang Dynasty poet, Li Bai: “举头望明月，低头思故乡” (Jǔ tóu wàng míng yuè, dī tóu sī gù xiāng).
World Homeless Day is observed internationally on the 10th of October. A day used to draw attention to the needs of those who experience homelessness and to provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness, something which many islanders may think isn’t an issue here in Jersey. Yet every night The Shelter Trust provides accommodation, food, support, and encouragement for around 125 people across their eight sites.
