
Two men sentenced for assisting unlawful immigration
Two men have been sentenced by the Royal Court for assisting unlawful immigration. Philip Ozouf received 120 hours community service and a £5,000 fine, while Roberto Lora received a £5,000 fine. The case is the first of its kind for the Jersey Customs and Immigration Service.
PFAS standards in drinking water
The Minister for the Environment, Deputy Steve Luce, lodged the Draft Water Law (Jersey) Amendment Regulations 202-. These regulations mark an important step forward in the management of Jersey’s drinking water, as they introduce statutory standards for PFAS in the water supplied to the public.
Minister lodges regulations to establish Jersey Capital Investment Fund
The Minister for Treasury & Resources, Deputy Elaine Millar, lodged measures before the States Assembly to establish the Jersey Capital Investment Fund. This is a significant step in delivering Investing in Jersey, the Council of Ministers’ long-term vision for strengthening and safeguarding the Island’s infrastructure.
Four UK international treaties extended to Jersey
The States Assembly has approved a request being made to the UK for the extension of four key international treaties to Jersey. Innovative Islanders will soon be able to protect designs such as trademarks, patents and industrial designs in many jurisdictions worldwide using a single form.
Analysis of petrol and diesel phase-out consultation begins
The public consultation on the proposed 2030 phase-out of petrol and diesel vehicles has now closed after a 12 week period of engagement. The consultation formed part of the Government’s Common Strategic Policy commitment to deliver the Carbon Neutral Roadmap.
Changes made to social housing criteria
More Islanders than ever before can apply for social rented housing, following changes implemented by the Minister for Housing. As part of his drive to make social housing more inclusive and responsive to Islanders’ needs, Deputy Sam Mézec has reduced the minimum age at which applicants without children can access social housing, from 25 to 18.
