News this week… Funding of the Jersey Employment Trust, no change to passport requirements for UK travel and initiatives for the National Year of Reading

Joint statement on the funding of the Jersey Employment Trust
A joint statement by the Chief Minister, Deputy Lyndon Farnham, the Minister for Social Security, Deputy Lyndsay Feltham, and the Jersey Employment Trust announced that Government will maintain its current level of support to JET throughout 2026, providing confirmed total funding of £2.7 million for this year while discussions continue on a longer-term funding arrangement.

National Year of Reading welcomed
The Reading Island Network has welcomed the launch of the National Year of Reading and announced two major initiatives to strengthen Jersey’s reading culture.

No change to passport requirements for UK travel
The Government of Jersey issued a statement confirming that it had not introduced any changes to passport requirements for travel between Jersey and the UK, or for wider journeys within the Common Travel Area.

Reminder to parents of children starting secondary school in September 2026
Parents will be emailed over two days on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 January 2026 to offer their child a place in a Government of Jersey secondary school.
