The launch of Jersey Connections on 5 December in London marked an exciting milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with the Jersey diaspora.
The journey to Jersey Connections
The concept of Jersey Connections began as a recommendation outlined in the Island Identity report: to build a stronger sense of belonging among those with links to Jersey, no matter where they are in the world. From this recommendation, we developed a vision for a platform that would serve as both a digital and in-person hub for Jersey’s extended family.
A section of the Island Identity website is dedicated to Jersey Connections as a significant first step. The site provides a centralised place for news, updates, and resources tailored to the Jersey diaspora. But we knew that fostering real connections meant going beyond the digital realm, which is why our in-person event was such a vital part of this initiative.
A celebration of community
I recently hosted the inaugural event at London’s Army and Navy Club. It brought together an incredible mix of people: university students, artists, musicians, and professionals working in industries from finance to fashion.
The evening was not only a networking opportunity but also a celebration of Jersey talent. A standout moment was the captivating performance by Jersey author, rapper and spoken-word poet Christian Foley, whose artistry underscored the creativity and talent within our community.
How Jersey Connections adds to the Jersey Society in London
The Jersey Society in London has long been a pillar of support for those in the city with ties to the Island, offering opportunities to meet, network, and maintain a connection to home. Jersey Connections seeks to widen this net, inviting a broader audience to engage, and offer connections to those living all over the world.
Together, Jersey Connections and the Jersey Society in London ensure that our diaspora has not only a social outlet but also a professional and creative network that reflects the diversity of modern Jersey.
Our vision for the future
Looking ahead, Jersey Connections aims to become a dynamic platform that evolves with the needs of the diaspora. We hope to foster collaborations, showcase Jersey talent, and celebrate the shared identity that unites us.
The feedback we received during the launch event was invaluable, offering fresh ideas for future gatherings and ways to strengthen the community. We encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and suggestions as we build on this foundation.

What’s next?
We’re excited to keep the momentum going with more in-person events and the launch of our Jersey Connections newsletter in the New Year. This will be a space to spotlight diaspora achievements, share updates on developments in Jersey and keep the community connected, no matter where they are in the world.
