This week, the Government of Jersey shared several strategic updates reflecting its commitment to public service, community wellbeing, and long-term development.

Government confirms new operator for Havre des Pas Lido

The Government has confirmed its intention to appoint a new operator for the Havre des Pas Bathing Pool which secures the future of the Lido and offers opportunities for new and enhanced community involvement at this iconic site.

Government commits to urgent review of support for carers

Deputy Lyndsay Feltham, Minister for Social Security, has announced a fast-tracked review into the support available for carers in Jersey. A clear plan and timetable are expected soon, and carers are encouraged to contact 444444 for immediate support.

Jersey joins world’s largest orthopaedic registry

Jersey General Hospital is now part of the National Joint Registry (NJR), which collects data on joint replacement surgeries to improve patient outcomes. With over 4.5 million records, the NJR helps monitor implant performance and surgical techniques. This move supports Jersey’s commitment to high-quality orthopaedic care and opens doors for research and innovation.

Independent advocacy regulations come into force

Children in care, care leavers, and those with health or safeguarding needs now have a legal right to free, professional advocacy services. The new regulations, signed by Connétable Richard Vibert, ensure children can express their views and understand their rights. A Code of Practice has also been published to guide service delivery.

Tenancy deposit scheme renewed

The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting rental deposits through MyDeposits Jersey. Landlords must place deposits in the scheme within 30 days, or face fines up to £10,000. The Tenancy Deposit Scheme ensures deposits are held securely and offers free dispute resolution services for tenants and landlords.

Winter Vaccination and Sustainability

Islanders are encouraged to book their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations as part of the winter programme, with appointments available for over-65s, frontline workers, and those with health conditions. Applications are open for the Low Carbon Heating Incentive, supporting eco-friendly home upgrades.

These updates reflect a government focused on practical health solutions and empowering Islanders to make informed choices.
