From today (Monday 1 September), multi-faith and all non-religious funeral services held at Jersey Crematorium will be temporarily relocated from the existing location on Westmount Road to the Members’ Room at the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society (RJA&HS) in Trinity.
The RJA&HS Members’ Room has been thoughtfully refurbished to provide the same respectful and dignified experience as the current crematorium facility, ensuring continuity for all services.
Irene Whitewood, the Crematorium Superintendent, explains the layout of the new facility and what Islanders can expect when they visit.
Given the crematorium’s immediate proximity to the new Acute Hospital’s construction site, the temporary move is necessary to ensure services can continue to be conducted with dignity and respect.
Services will continue to be delivered at this temporary location for a number of years until the most potentially impactful elements of construction have been satisfactorily progressed.
What you can expect
Islanders will continue to receive the same high standards of service quality and care from the crematorium team.
Larger crematorium services already take place at the RJA&HS, when capacity exceeds the current Westmount Road facility, and this arrangement will continue going forward.
Irene shares: “My crematorium team and I are pleased with the new temporary facility, which offers a calm and respectful atmosphere. We feel we already have a good working relationship with the RJA&HS, as they already hold larger services at this facility. I would also like to emphasise that the Garden of Remembrance will continue to be accessible both during and after the Overdale construction, although you may wish to consider visiting at a more peaceful time, once construction starts.”
What will be remaining at Jersey Crematorium on Westmount Road?
Only the funeral service aspect of the crematorium will be relocated to the RJA&HS. Cremations, interments, and the use of the Garden of Remembrance will remain at the existing Jersey Crematorium location on Westmount Road, with the office open as usual.
Service details
Services will continue to take place from Monday to Thursday, similar to the current schedule, with occasional availability for services on Friday mornings.
Service times (doors open approx. 30 minutes before each service):
- 10:00am – 10:30am
- 11:30am – 12:00pm
- 1:00pm – 1:30pm
- 2:30pm – 3:00pm
